Acoustics as Architecture: Silence as a Design Material

Acoustic treatment usually arrives after a complaint — a felt panel bolted to a wall that was never designed to absorb anything. By then the room has already taught everyone to speak louder.

Treat it as structure

We spec reverberation time before we spec finishes. A ceiling grid, a floor build-up, and a partition system are all acoustic decisions before they're anything else.

1. 01Model reverberation time per zone at concept stage
2. 02Choose structural finishes with absorption built in, not applied after
3. 03Reserve soft finishes for tuning, not for carrying the whole load
